For finished drafts, I first proofread the manuscript for grammar, punctuation, verb tense, capitalization, spelling, sentence structure, and clarity. However, my primary focus is more on helping you improve sentence and paragraph structure, and scene arrangement. Grammar is important, but if you do not have a good story, a publisher will not be interested in it. I offer suggestions that will help you strengthen and tighten the narrative, improve dialogue and description, and craft convincing characters.
I also provide a detailed analysis that concentrates on the book as a whole, such as the schematics, organization, and voice, and identify their strengths and weaknesses. I offer specific suggestions about how to confront revision, a daunting task for any writer, emerging or established. My goal is help you prepare your manuscript for publication.
After you review the edits on the manuscript and detailed analysis, I am available via email, phone or Skype to go over any questions. It is important to me that every writer I work with feels confident when they begin the process of revision.
I also proofread and copy edit academic essays/research papers.
I offer guidance and advice for works-in-progress. Novels/Nonfiction: chapter-by-chapter feedback and line edits. Poetry: single/groups of poems focusing on rhythm sound, and syntax. If you choose this option, we can set up a schedule for sending me chapters or poems to review.
Fees vary depending on your project proposal and I will send you a quote shortly after I review the proposal. Before we begin working together, I ask for half of the fee upfront and the second half upon completion. References are available upon request. Contact me with all your editorial questions. Let’s get started.
